Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

All monographs, edited collections, research handbooks and reference works published by Bloomsbury academic undergo at least one round of single-blind peer review. Projects contracted on the basis of a proposal and sample material undergo two rounds of single- or double-blind peer review, the first at proposalstage, and the second at manuscript stage. Projects submitted as a full manuscript are sent for a minimum of one round of single- or double-blind peer review.

Each round of review will involve a minimum of two, and a maximum of six, separate reviews. We endeavour to procure reviews from academics around the world including but not restricted to the UK, Europe, USA, Australasia and Asia. All reviewers hold PhDs and are considered experts on the subject they are being asked to comment on.

The review process consists of a peer review questionnaire, which reviewers use as a guide to comment on the project. Reviewers are expected to declare any potential bias ahead of reviewing. All reviews are anonymised and then shared with proposal authors or editors, who are asked to respond to criticism and suggestions, and make any required revisions. The commissioning editor consults with colleagues and makes a decision based on the reviews, and the author or editor’s response to them, as to whether to make a formal offer to contract the project.
