Graz University Library Publishing

Publishing with Graz University Library requires a two-step peer review procedure, which is an essential step in ensuring the quality of all publications.

The first step is internal: Authors/editors submit a proposal, which our team formally reviews. To support the strategic development of Graz University Library Publishing and to guarantee the scientific quality of the books published on the platform a Scientific Board has been set up. The members of the Scientific Board are listed below:

  • Vice Rector for Research
  • Deans of the faculties located at the University of Graz (Humanities, Catholic theology, Natural Sciences, Law, Social and economic sciences, Environmental, regional and educational sciences)
  • Director of the University Library

At least two members of the Board review the proposals. When assessing proposals, the Scientific Board adheres to the Editorial Policy and Review Guidelines of Graz University Library Publishing.

A full-text review is required for the second step. As far as monographs are concerned, the publisher’s team will be responsible for organising peer review. In the case of series and edited volumes, the editors must provide evidence of peer review.

The review guidelines are as follows:

  • Relevance and actuality of the topic
  • Originality of the approach chosen
  • Transparency of procedures, methods and results (ensuring 'good scientific practice')
  • Traceability of outcomes
  • Structured and coherent work
  • Summarized evaluation based on a given scale as a final recommendation:
    • Acceptance recommended without revision
    • Acceptance recommended with minor revision
    • Acceptance recommended, but extensive revisions required
    • Major revision and resubmission recommended
    • Rejection recommended

The Graz University Library Publishing team has prepared and made available the guidelines for peer review. The evaluation forms on our website are based on these guidelines
