Launch of OPERAS-NL: collaboration between OAPEN and KNAW Humanities Cluster (HuC)
Press Release: The Hague / Amsterdam, 17 November 2025 The OAPEN Foundation (OAPEN) and the KNAW Humanities Cluster are collaborating to establish OPERAS-NL, the Dutch National Node within the European OPERAS network. Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to improve open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in the Netherlands.
OPERAS is the Research Infrastructure (RI) dedicated to supporting open scholarly communication in SSH within the European Research Area (ERA). Its mission is to coordinate and integrate European resources to address the needs of researchers.
OPERAS-NL is one of 13 National Nodes connecting European initiatives with local research communities and ensuring that national needs and perspectives are taken into account in international developments.
A strong foundation for open scholarly communication
Both organisations are well placed to jointly lead the Dutch National Node:
- OAPEN is a globally operating Dutch foundation established in 2010 that focuses on providing services for peer-reviewed open access books. They are a founding member of OPERAS, and a member of the OPERAS Executive Assembly.
- The KNAW Humanities Cluster (HuC), part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen), supports innovative humanities research and builds sustainable research infrastructures.
What does OPERAS-NL offer?
- Information about OPERAS services for the Dutch research community
- Training and support in using these services
- Networking and events for researchers, publishers, and libraries
- International visibility for Dutch humanities and social sciences
OPERAS services include GoTriple, Pathfinder, Metrics, VERA, Hypotheses, PRISM, and Mondaecus: tools that help make research openly accessible, discoverable and reusable.
