Deposit Service for Publishers

Publishers are encouraged to deposit books into the OAPEN Library on behalf of authors. OAPEN hosts open access books and chapters for the European Research Council, Wellcome, the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and SNSF. Each of these funders has specific requirements for publishers:

Wellcome requires authors or publishers to deposit the full text monograph or book chapter files in PMC Bookshelf immediately upon publication, or sooner, using the Open Access Monograph and Book Chapter Deposit Form: https://oadeposit.wellcome.ac.uk/oa/. OAPEN will add these publications to its collection.

FWF has two different programs:

Books funded through the FWF program for stand-alone publications are archived by FWF in the FWF-E-Book-Library. OAPEN adds these publications to its collection.

Books resulting from FWF grants need to be deposited by the author or the publisher in a repository of their choice (see: http://www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-funding/open-access-policy/). Publishers can deposit these books into the OAPEN Library.

Publishers that are already a member of OAPEN can use the normal uploading procedure. All other publishers can use the online form to deposit publications on behalf of authors.

SNSF requires depositing all peer-reviewed scientific monographs, anthologies and book chapters financed by the SNSF (financing by the SNSF refers to financing of the research that has generated the results being published and/or direct financing of the publication by a BPC resp. BCPC)

ERC requires authors or publishers to deposit the full text monograph or book chapter files in a repository of their choice immediately upon publication. Please consult the ERC OA requirements for full details.

The ERC Scientific Council mentions the OAPEN Library as the recommended repository for monographs and book chapters and other long-text publications.

Publishers that are already a member of OAPEN can use the normal uploading procedure. All other publishers can use the online form to deposit publications on behalf of authors.

To complete this form you will need the:

  • ERC grant details
  • Full text monograph or book chapter file(s), plus associated metadata files if available
  • Embargo release date, if applicable (i.e. the date as of which open access can be provided to the publication through the OAPEN library).

If you prefer to fill in the form offline, please download the form here.
